26/05: Russian Tourists Bother the World
Russians are some of the most annoying tourists showed a recent study by Expedia.Com conducted among hoteliers in major tourist destinations. Only French, Indian and Chinese tourists were found to be more annoying than Russians, who are closely followed by British.
Among the most common reasons were that Russian tourists are too rowdy, like to drink a lot, and are basically quite loud. Some Austrian ski resorts have even introduced a quota this year that doesn't allow more than 20% of Russian tourists at its hotels, which caused huge scandals in Russia.
On the other hand, Russians turned out to be second big spenders after Americans, which is perhaps the reason why they are still quite welcomed at popular destinations. For example, the French ski resort Courchevel has so-called "Russian weeks" in the beginning of January when there's more Russians than locals and some say that most of the real estate at that resort has already been bought by Russian magnates. While Courchevel is the destination for the rich tourists, middle class prefers Egypt and Turkey. In 2006 more than 1 Mln Russians traveled to Turkey and the destination is becoming increasingly popular.
