Russia is rarely presented in a bad light here. In Canada, I can almost sense that the media here likes to poke at the lion down south. Russians are held in high regard in Canada. The story in Canada can be seen here.

There are Russophobic sentiments today all over Europe. No one seems to care that it's racism out right. There's quite a bit of anti-Russian propaganda going on here in the U.S., and most of the stuff we hear on the news is nothing but lies. I would know - I have family in Russia :) The U.S. media like to report on how the poor protestors get beat up, failing to mention that these protestors are not just "against Putin's regime", but also are part of the "white supremacy" nationalist movement. So is with the "freedom of the press" - I can assure you that the Russian press is as free as the American press, yet we keep hearing otherwise... I'm surprised how anti-Russian America is.

Victor has the point though. It is true that what happened in Estinia has been condoned quietly by the wEST. The West certainly has not condemned estinian behaviour. I am Srbian and I know ehen teh West want to villify and sotonise one nation they will turn the truth and the historical facts upside down and try to come up with a new history. The West are hiding behind EUFEMISTIC HEADINGS OF "HUMAN RIGHTS WESTERN STYLE", "POLITICAL CORRECTNESS", "COLLATERLA DAMAGE" etc. i AMfaraid that the wet has fueled this hatred in Estonia. Instead of trying to to assit in the process of calming both sides down the west has taken the opposite diercstion seeing the gain for themselves in this dispute. Estinins should know that the Communism was a bad regime for Russians as well. And Russian people suffreed the most. But they also need to know that Russians gave their 30 million sons and daughters to defend the world against the eveil called "NAZISM", and "Concentration camps". To deny Nazi conc. camps and atrocities is considered a crime in most countries.

yes russia does have its problems but from my experience its no worse then any other country. i really dont understand the continual negative opinions of the british media towards everything russian. i have visited russia on four occasions, during these visits i have noticed that on russian tv they seem to love the uk:)god only knows why:)))

FYI:

French GDP was $1.891 trillion
UK GDP was $1.93 trillion

So, while Russian GDP is still 7 times less than that of the US, it's comparable with GDP of major European countries.

I'm American, 55 years old. It saddens me that 90% of all news that I read (anywhere) can't get it right.
Yes, there are stupid and evil Americans ... but there are stupid and evil people everywhere. There are also GOOD and FAIR people everywhere! Evil almost always comes from ignorance and misunderstanding. At other times, evil is just plain greed and selfishness. In my opinion, too many news media participate in all of the above, but mostly greed. Ratings!! And ultra-liberal politics, which most of the time makes no good sense at all. Extreme liberalism (or extreme anything else) is often very conflicting, highly contradictory, and flagrantly hypocritical.
I would ask that anyone who reads this will try to remember one thing: The news media will NEVER represent ANY of our worlds with real "truth and light".
Usually those who are the loudest or the first to speak, have the very least to say.
TV and Press news serve some purpose, but there is less and less real (or good) purpose each day, I'm afraid.
I find the best and the richest experiences in life are always in one-to-one communication. I have traveled and spent some time in a few countries, either briefly or for years. I have always enjoyed friends everywhere I traveled!! I have talked to people, both rich and poor, uneducated and highly educated, in many social classes.
People are just people!! I think that nationalism and national identity are good! But NOT for the sake of "one against another".
I happen to love the Russia that I have heard and read about. I was in the United States Air Force for 20 years ... military. That may be a problem for some people! But military service was the reason that I learned to love the world around me, and to find people from other nations who could be friends with me ... and with many other Americans!! ... despite the uniform that I wore, and despite the reason that I was in their country.
America has a strange and varied history ... :-) ... an even more strange and varied present, and an extremely uncertain future. So do most other countries and governments in our modern world.
The future of the world depends on good and positive communication. We hear far, far too much about the negatives, and about distrust. I may sound too much like an naive idealist, but I have lived a long life and I have seen good things happen. Mos of the time the good things came about because of the will and the goodness of people. I fear for all our futures ... but I also HOPE for all our futures.
I have recently made some good friends from Russia. I hope those good people will be my friends for life, and that politics and greed and ignorance will never stand in our way.

I can understand russia is protecting its citizens which is allowed todo (UN charter 51) i see alot of messages on youtube from americans saying the U.S should have attacked russia for invadeing georgia!!!

Russians are lazy, blood thirsty leaches. Now, that they don't have Ukraine as bread basket, Aizerbaidzhan as their fee oil supplier they are a weaker nation. In addition to that, they are losing 700,000 people because of low birth rate. Putin surrounded himeself with ex KGB thugs. Russians are a bunch of criminals with nuclear arsenal. The only language they understand is force. Diplomacy is not their favorite way to resolve problems. It requires effort but becuase Russians are the laziest people in the wold, they would rather use force. Russia=USSR. Country ruled by fear and force. Nothing changed since the evil empire fell apart, nothing.

My grandfather was from Rovna in what was then the Soviet Union. When he came to Canada, his last name was lost behind with his ID. Rudia was his nickname which was also on some documents. So now we are known as Rudiaschy. But we are russian.My father speaks russian and ukranian, but says that we are russian blood. This makes me proud.
