There's a new, interesting website that allows you to search public transport routes in Moscow. You enter your starting point (street or address) and your destination and it tells you the best public transport options (buses, trams, metro, etc). Could be very useful when you're trying to get somewhere that has no nearby metro station. Here's the site:

Moscow Public Transport Search

It's still in Beta version and at the moment there are some problems with entering street names (it's not clear what transliteration is needed). But the 'Object' search currently works well. And the Russian language search works fine.

Update: Way to Russia in cooperation with RusAvtobus created our own version in English, where you can mark the locations on Google Maps. Check out Moscow Guide -> Public Transport Search

One morning, at the start of May 2005, Mark Cundy set out on his daily stroll – pushing a pram full of his belongings on a 19 km saunter from the Moscow suburban town of Krasnogorsk to Red Square. By itself, it was a quite a robust workout to be sure. What was far more impressive was that he had walked all the way from London to get there.

In fact, the walk from London to Moscow was just the first leg of a ‘world walk’, which also saw Cundy saunter from Melbourne to Sydney as the second leg and from the west coast to the east coast of the USA. While the walk was done for the benefit of Cancer Research UK, more than anything Cundy set out on this amazing journey in pursuit of a dream and a sense of achievement. And now he has documented his incredible adventures in the soon to be released book, A Man and a Pram.

Here are some Moscow base jump vids from Youtube. The video above is my favorite. These guys just walk into the library of the Moscow Universtity on the 21st floor. The ones of you who know Moscow, know that this is one of the “7 Sisters”, the Stalin high rise buildings, built in the 50s. Where was I? Ah, they walk into the library, say a polite Hello to some woman who is there and then the first guy jumps out of the window. The second guy, who films, says a polite “Good Bye”, checks the wind and jumps as well. Its just great! I wonder how they got on and off the campus, since that is highly guarded and your bags are checked when you get in. You won’t make it in, if you are not a student anyway. Good one.

More and some story about a secret base jumper club right here ...

There was another attempt to make a gay pride rally in Moscow last weekend, but the event was prohibited upfront by Mayor Lushkov. Still some 40 gay activists wanted to go to the city hall and deliver a protest note. They were aggressed by radical nationalists and religious fanatics. The OMON riot police arrested some activists, especially foreign ones, for their own "protection", but mostly they were standing there watching the activists getting beat up by skinheads.

I haven't been there, but I collected some materials from the Internet and I would like to comment on the event and the (mostly) foreign criticism. By the way. My name is Chris Helmbrecht aka "two-zero". I am writing the Moscow-Blog(.com) since 3 years and I just joined WayToRussia. I'll mostly write about lifestyle in Moscow, but now and then I can't resist to write something a bit more political. Feel free to comment as you like.
