Have you ever wondered what catches people's attention first, when they see a map of the world, election bulletin, your family photograph, or the Google website?

Well, now there's a tool called Feng GUI, which allows you to do exactly that: upload any picture and create a "heatmap" of it. The points on the heatmap show the main focal points and areas of attention on the picture.

While the tool can be very interesting for web designers, who can test prototypes of their websites, as well as photographers, and video makers (yes, they've got a video version of it as well – see a trailer at the end of the post – exciting!), we at Way to Russia were really concerned about the impact of Feng GUI on our motherland, that is Russia.

The first thing that came in mind, was to scan the recent 2008 President Election Bulletin, and look what we found:

One morning, at the start of May 2005, Mark Cundy set out on his daily stroll – pushing a pram full of his belongings on a 19 km saunter from the Moscow suburban town of Krasnogorsk to Red Square. By itself, it was a quite a robust workout to be sure. What was far more impressive was that he had walked all the way from London to get there.

In fact, the walk from London to Moscow was just the first leg of a ‘world walk’, which also saw Cundy saunter from Melbourne to Sydney as the second leg and from the west coast to the east coast of the USA. While the walk was done for the benefit of Cancer Research UK, more than anything Cundy set out on this amazing journey in pursuit of a dream and a sense of achievement. And now he has documented his incredible adventures in the soon to be released book, A Man and a Pram.

Russians are some of the most annoying tourists showed a recent study by Expedia.Com conducted among hoteliers in major tourist destinations. Only French, Indian and Chinese tourists were found to be more annoying than Russians, who are closely followed by British.

This woman is 103 years old. Her name is Munya, and she was born in Ukraine in November, 1903. She has survived three revolutions (and at least one attempted coup), two world wars, Stalin's purges (she's Jewish), the economic crisis, food shortages, floods and fevers.
